Director of People and Culture 

Reports To CEO 

Job Summary 

The Director of People and Culture, under the direction of the CEO will primarily be responsible to identify current and prospective people requirements. This position will oversee personnel management, including compensation structures, organizational design and company culture 

Job Responsibilities 

  • Takes ownership of people and culture within the organization and work with the team to foster a collective vision to achieve company goals. 

  • Provide leadership and coaching to managers and employees on key workplace matters such as culture, performance management, employee relations, and employee development 

  • Identify current and prospective staffing requirements, oversee recruiting both internal and external recruiting efforts, screen, interview applications, design compensation plans and negotiate employment contracts. 

  • With the support of a HR Generalist oversee the orientation/onboarding of new hires and the training of all employees 

  • Develop training programs that meet regulatory requirements and best practices within the industry. Recognize areas of improvement for employees, providing additional training as needed 

  • Ensure that all employees comply with company policies, procedures, health and safety regulations and ethical standards 

  • Handle employee complaints and incidents, including conflict resolution, accidents, health and safety concerns, work refusals, and investigations

  • Leadership - Works well with a wide range of individuals to provide support, coaching, encouragement, and direction. 

  • Negotiation - Gains support of ideas, proposals, and solutions from others; reaches deals and compromises on what will work best for the organization; considers other opinions while holding strong to firm directions and goals. 

  • Results Orientation - Able to focus on desired outcomes, and the means by which they are achieved by meeting and or exceeding standards based on past performance, goals, and objectives, as well as the performance and/or achievements of others. 

 

Working Environment 

  • Working in a busy start-up office environment 

  • Interaction with employees, senior leadership, clients, candidates and the public at large 

  • Flexible hours as business needs require 

  • Attendance at meetings and conducting presentations 

 

Candidate Requirements 

  • Language: Chinese 

  • Degree or an advanced degree or diploma in business administration, management, human resources or a related field 

  • Five years of experience in human resources, recruiting or a management role 

  • CHRP/CHRL designation desirable 

  • Payments industry experience is an asset 

  • Proven ability to develop and implement training and development courses 

  • Strong conflict resolution skills 

  • Proven experience preparing and conducting employee evaluations 

  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills
